One small drop…

on October 3, 2011

A drop in the water causes ripples. As we were all taught as kids in Pocahontas, Grandmother Willow shows John Smith and Pocahontas that they grow “but someone has to start them.” Ripples can effect a lot of people, and not all ripples are good.

The rippling fear of what happened with the Fukushima Daiichi nuclear plant in Japan has scared a lot of people to the brink of senselessness. Some people felt that Japan “deserved” what happened. Which really makes me sick. Now the people here in the states are looking to their own nuclear plants and worrying that it will just randomly combust. Listen people, the reason Japan had it so bad was because a plate under the earth shifted. If you have any idea or concept of what that means, then you should understand.

However, not all ripples are bad. Many are good, but small. And the efforts of those small ripples sometimes don’t make it to the places that need it most. More often than not, Christian’s are those tiny ripples. We often start out very small and sometimes, we never grow larger, never reaching for that edge, knowing that if we pull ourselves to it, we could fall. We won’t fall. We must walk the brink of that abyss, because this world, is like a sheer-dropping canyon. A sharp razor edge. Without God, we barely manage to keep from tumbling.

It’s the most gratifying though, to walk that edge, without any fear. Making larger ripples in the world, by helping everyone who is in need and even those who aren’t. We are to be like Jesus in all that we do, STRIVING for perfection, even though we will never obtain it in this life.

That’s what I want to do, strive for perfection, the perfection of Jesus. Knowing I’ll never get it, but still working hard to find it.
